April 2, 2014: Message from Manor New Tech Principal Steve Zipkes about the "Powerful Engaging PBL Professional Development" that will be provided at this summer's Think Forward PBL Institute, June 17-19

Manor New Tech's Think Forward Institute (TFI) is a 3-day intense PBL training institute for Manor ISD, K-12, and for other school districts in Texas and elsewhere. Since the school's launch in 2007, the school's faculty has developed master-level skills in Project-Based Learning and 21st Century Teaching and Learning and now trains teachers districtwide and K-12 from Manor ISD and from across the nation through TFI. Manor New Tech will also send a faculty team to conduct TFI at your own school site anywhere. Manor New Tech is located in Central Texas, just northeast of Austin.

Manor New Tech is one of the country's most innovative STEM 21st Century schools. I highly recommend TFI to teams from schools that are transforming to 21st Century Teaching and Learning. I also recommend that such teams send an advance delegation to one of Manor New Tech's full-day Study Tours. -- Bob, August 2012

Message from Manor New Tech Principal Steve Zipkes about the "Powerful Engaging PBL Professional Development" that will be provided at this summer's Think Forward PBL Institute, June 17-19

April 2, 2014

Greetings from Manor New Tech,

Summer is almost upon us and it is time to begin looking for professional development opportunities for you, your colleagues, and your staff. However, budgets are tight and you want to ensure the PD you are investing in is transforming and developing self efficacy within those attending. If you are anything like me I have restructured my PD for staff based upon feedback from those attending. I was tired of hearing about restaurants and sites when I asked about the PD. There was no sense of real investment or transformative information received from those that attended.

This is why I am sending you this email. Project Based Learning (PBL) is being looked at as a viable pedagogical approach in delivering instruction at the local, State, and National levels. While you can search for PBL training online and you will most certainly find more and more institutions and companies coming on line to offer training I wanted to tell you about Think Forward PBL Institute.

Think Forward PBL Institute began as a way for Manor New Technology High School to maintain capacity within our own campus. However, as more and more visitors went through the school they asked how they could get to the level of 100% PBL as we have been for 7 years. We began providing Think Forward PBL Institute during the school year 51/2 years ago and continue to this day. Think Forward PBL is highly successful as our teacher practitioner/ trainers wrote and conduct the actual training for other practitioners. The trainers have created, developed and have actually run anywhere from 50-120 projects each in their classrooms and continue to this day. THIS IS EXTREMELY POWERFUL to have actual experienced practicing practitioners training other practitioners. As Think Forward PBL grew and the number of teacher practitioners trained and visitors have come through Manor New Tech we began having more and more requests to provide site trainings at different school sites around the country.

Please take a moment to view the links and consider our Think Forward PBL Summer Summit or PBL training needs for your site this Summer. We offer PBL Training as well as Adaptive PBL Leadership Training and Consultation.

We do not offer you everything under the Sun, but we will offer you a PD that will challenge, engage, develop agency and help transform your pedagogical approach to instruction where you will learn the PROCESS of PBL and develop a standards based, teacher created authentic project to actually launch in you class or classes. This training is a process training and works irregardless of your content and grade level.

Please view the links for more information and thank you for your consideration.

Best,

Steven

"We Don't Teach Old School, Where Innovation is a Prerequisite”

Message from Manor New Tech Principal Steve Zipkes announcing 11 Regional Think Forward PBL Regional Conferences across the US in 2014-2015: 2 in Florida, 2 in California, 1 in Colorado, 1 in Chicago, 1 in Boston, 1 in Washington, DC, 1 in Houston, and 2 in Arkansas.

October 6, 2014

Greetings Friend,

This is Steven Zipkes, Founding Principal of Manor New Technology High School a 100% PBL school and a Nationally recognized STEM School.

The purpose for my email is to bring exciting news. For the last 6.5 years we have trained teacher/practitioners and leaders in deeper project based learning processes through our Think Forward PBL Institute. We have trained over 1000 teachers all over the US and in 4 different Countries; Great Britain, Canada, Mexico, and China. This past Summer we held Think Forward PBL Summer Summit where we had 120 teachers from RI, NY, LA, OK, IL, ND, UT, MI, OH,TX, CA and 8 teachers from China. It was an overwhelming success.

Over the last 3 years I have had more and more requests for our training to be held at the requesting school or District as it is more cost effective to have us go there than have 30-60 teachers from a district come to us. With the increased demand for Think Forward PBL deeper training and our passion for Project Based Learning we are holding 11 Regional Think Forward PBL Institutes being held throughout the US. We are holding 2 Think Forward PBL Institutes in Florida and 2 in California, 1 in Colorado, 1 in Chicago, 1 in Boston, 1 in Washington DC, 1 in Houston, and 2 in Arkansas. Find out more at thinkforwardpbl.org.

Our training is 3 days of intense deeper learning processes of PBL. Think Forward PBL Institute is taught by practicing teachers/trainers that have 5-8 years of 100% PBL instruction at Manor New Tech. Each trainer has an average of 100-150 individual projects completed. Our teacher/practitioners wrote each of the processes for the training and it is the only training that I know of where each of the trainers have been teaching at a 100% Project Based Learning school for 5 years or longer most of the trainers have been teaching 100% PBL for the last 8 years at MNTH. The power of a practicing 100% PBL teacher/trainer teaching other practitioners the processes of PBL through Think Forward has been voiced time and time again by participants to be the most effective and substantial even by those who have been attended other trainings in the past.
Here is the website to find out how to register for a Regional training. thinkforwardpbl.org

In addition, if you google Manor New Technology High School you can find a wealth of information such as; President Obama visited us last year highlighting our PBL teaching, US Sec Arne Duncan highlighted our school in 2010 as a Model School, We are a highlighted PBL "School That Works" on Edutopia, George Lucas Educational Foundation, I served on the high school redesign panel at the White House where Manor New Tech was one of the 4 schools to model after in the recent 100 Million Dollar race to the top high school redesign grant, We are a Bill Daggett,ICLE Model School, We have been an Apple Distinguished School since 2008-9, and we have our own YouTube Channel with over 1500 teacher and student videos. In addition, I received the 2014 International STEM Visionary Award by The International Association STEM Leaders and have been Keynote speaker at many events including the US News and Reports STEM Solutions Conference just to name a few items. We have much to share in PBL and best practices.

The intent of the Regional Think Forward PBL Insitutites and Conferences are to provide deeper PBL training to as many interested educational practitioners and leaders looking to change their pedagogical approach of instruction to PBL while limiting the financial burden of extensive travel costs for the entities by training in proximity of their home.

If interested in changing your instructional practice or deepen your PBL practice I encourage you to take advantage of a Regional Think Forward PBL Institute near you.

Best,

Steven
